On the 6th of February 1952 the then 25-year-old princess became Queen following the death of her father King George VI. Lavish celebrations to mark the Queens Diamond Jubilee are planned throughout 2012 with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh supported by other members of the Royal family travelling across the United Kingdom and beyond. The main celebrations will centre around the first weekend in June with activities throughout the UK and across the Commonwealth.
